The Cancer Convergence Education Network conference was an incredible opportunity for junior colleagues like myself to gain exposure to groundbreaking research in the field of cancer/immunotherapy, as well as to connect with the thought leaders behind these advances. As I grow closer to the day when I will have to align myself with a niche of research, it is immensely valuable to interact with and receive mentorship from such a diverse and accomplished group of scientists.

The Cancer Convergence Education Network (CCEN) supports three to four meetings a year, in diverse geographical locations, with time for extensive discussion and interaction. The meetings aim to mix individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills, to cover the topics addressed by the Teams from Convergence 1.0, 2.0, and 3.14, and to introduce novel approaches and new technologies to related questions. This includes the development and organization of workshops highlighting the current and potential future impact of convergence research on discoveries, innovations, and technology development, and featuring interactions with leaders in their fields.

An additional aspect of the program is the development and implementation of a multipronged career enhancement initiative for current and former Convergence post-docs and graduate students, featuring opportunities for intensive mentoring and practical training in giving polished scientific talks to a variety of audiences, creating persuasive job-candidacy convergence research programs and profiles, and promoting career opportunities for CCEN cohort scientists through introductions and connections to potential collaborators and employers.
